Oral history
Former speedway rider, Bernard Collier, remembers his trips to watch the speedway as a youngster
Oh they were massive crowds at the time, a lot of people would be going every week and for big meetings there would be big queues outside you know and it was quite cheap to get in. I think it use to be about twenty pence in the old days like, it would be very cheap and it was a really big family atmosphere and then they would travel over into the funfair after the Speedway. You could hear the funfair in the background in the interval of the racing and everything, so it was just absolutely a magical place to go. So exciting when you’re young
