Selection of slides from Belle Vue
WHEN DID YOU GET IT?
Early 60's
Hi ! My name is Terry Robson. I have many memories of Belle Vue.I was born in 1953 and as a child live on Heywood House Flats on Bennett Street not far away from Belle Vue.So I spent many a weekend and most of my summer school holidays in there. Then, when I was 14 I started working on the Fairground, on The Go Carts for a family that owned most of the rides. The Wadbrooks had about everything that wasn’t run by Belle Vue. I did four seasons on The Go Carts but after I had left, I still use to walk through the gates and just say. “Staff ! Wadbrooks” ! And not pay to get in.That was right up to near the end. I could see the end was near when they put a fence across the centre of Belle Vue and it became free into the fairground but you had to pay to get into The Zoo part. It’s a shame for all the young people who have missed out on what was a Great Place and a Big part of My Childhood.P.S. I got a viewer toy from Belle Vue, when I was a kid. I think it was suppose to make the pictures look 3D ?Anyway ! I still carry some of the slides I got with it in my wallet.
